OSS: Well, that sucked.
Three up:
- The Cubs meat grinder got going early, sending seven batters to the plate against a clearly out-of-sorts Rich Hill in the second inning. He was over 40 pitches by the end of it plus half a hundred pickoff throws on noted base purloiner Anthony Rizzo, and the Cubs felt on schedule to do some damage. It just never materialized after that.
- Kris Bryant had two hits on the day, the only Cub who seemed to have an answer for Rich Hill.
- I thought Justin Grimm looked pretty sharp coming out of the pen.
Three thousand down
I don’t even want to enumerate things. The Cubs bats were just ice cold this whole game, and the Cubs did not get much help from the home plate umpire, who I think was the model that they used to produce the giant heads mod on Goldeneye 64. Javy made a few mistakes in the field, pinch hitters might not have been used effectively, outfielders can’t communicate again. Blah. Go get them tomorrow fellas.

I do, because the Dodgers don’t want to return to Wrigley down 3-2. Plus he’d be available in a potential Game 7 from the pen. They’d get more out of him.

Kershaw has pitched on 3 days rest 4 times since 2013. He’s gone 7 innings once, with the other 3 starts less. He’s had two great starts on 3 days rest, 1 average (3 runs), and 1 bad.

I’d probably rather him pitch Game 5 than 6. Hopefully Cubs win tonight. Else they’re probably fucked barring some Theo-Red Sox voodoo magic.
JonKneeVQuote Reply
I’d rather he pitch game 5 because I like Lester’s chances of shutting the dodgers down more than Hendricks.
dmick89Quote Reply
Yeah they really need to get their shit together tonight. I actually like a game 5 matchup of short rest Kershaw against regular rest Lester.
While I’m mentally preparing for another long ass offseason and long ass season waiting for the postseason to start, there’s still a lot of series left and the Cubs are still the best team in MLB.
PerkinsQuote Reply
So that was about the least surprising outcome of a baseball game I can remember. One of the most productive offenses during the regular season being completely shut down by a former Cubs pitcher that had previously sucked in the postseason while their reigning CY winner struggles.
Despite the fact that I skewed reality a bit, it doesn’t get more #cubs than that.

I just don’t get how 75% of a lineup can slump at the same time. The vets like Fowler, Heyward, and Zobrist can’t get on base when they were brought in to be the steady hand during a playoff atmosphere.
I’d like to see Bryant moved down to the 3rd spot and get Javy batting 1st or 2nd. Joe needs to find a way to get runners on base in front of Bryant right now. Hell, even put Rizzo in front of Bryant.
JonKneeVQuote Reply
With his base stealing ability, Rizzo should probably be hitting leadoff.

I’m not a fan of my teams because of the fanbases. In fact, I’m probably a fan despite my teams’ fanbases.

Yeah, outside of this group of jabronis, I find Cubs fans to be largely insufferable.
That said, I’ve generally found Sox fans to be somehow worse. While most of the Cubs fans I know give less than a shit about the Sox, most of the Sox fans I know are as happy to see the Cubs lose as to see the Sox win. It seems like a miserable and exhausting way to be a fan.

Take this season, for example. I’ve watched maybe 9 Cubs innings all season leading up to the NLCS. I turned to Game 1 right after LAD tied it up and before Montero’s GS. Those fuckers made me think for a split second that they had a chance to win the pennant or even the WS. Just enough to disappoint me.

I’ve tried to be more detached and less emotionally invested in individual wins and losses, even in the playoffs. I’m enjoying watching the front office work, the growth of both business and baseball operations, and watching the team piss excellence on a regular basis. I went into this postseason telling myself repeatedly that weird shit happens in a small sample size, and that it doesn’t take away from what they’ve done all year.
Obviously it’s a lot better if they win than lose, but beyond blowing off steam in the moment, I don’t let it get me too down.

Your literary ability is flawless, you should help educate the world. The Dodgers will do my bidding on the field. I just find it hilarious with the “Woe is me” attitude the Cubs fan base has. Like God, Jesus, and any other higher being gives a shit about any Fanbase.
Just good to know we are louder, prouder, and overall a happier Fanbase and this is going to be a great next two days. I know everyone in this forum hates me and in the back of their mind are hopeful my prediction of saying your goodbyes to the Cubs because there will be no more home games until Sprint Training doesn’t ring true. So far so good.

All this talk of Fagas Straps reminds me of my Poli Sci class in high school. We had to create mock campaign ads for someone actually running in the election, so my group chose the (nonvoting, I believe) Representative from American Samoa. His name was Fagafaga Daniel Langkilde.

When I was in boy scouts (I was around 8-9 years old), we went to an Air and Space museum and they taught us about the different planes manufactured in the local area. One of these planes was the Enola Gay. We didn’t care so much about the fact that it won the United States arguably the most important war ever as much as we did the part where “Gay” was in the name.
