Expect to see a lot of this.
Single game tickets went on sale on Friday, and as of this writing (~11 pm Sunday night) there are manyof tickets available for OPENING DAY. Poking around the ticketing site, you can buy singletons in in Field Box (OF), Terrace Box (IF), Upper deck box (IF, and the best seats in any ballpark), Terrace Box (OF), and assorted upper deck areas. But there are still plenty of tickets available in the bleachers, as well as terrace reserved spots in the grandstand. You can buy up to 6 in those sections (and one or two more price tiers). Most of these are well down the outfield lines, but still. Opening Day.
The other big series of the season, against the Red Sox, is more uniformly sold out (save for Bleachers). That's not too surprising considering the number of Boston fans that will likely stream into the park that weekend. Somehow I don't think the Nationals are as big of a draw.
I used to feel that Pat and Ron's guess the attendance game was a bit of a cheat, since you pretty much knew it every day. Pat and Zonk are going to have to hone their crowd-guessing/marketing-department-bullshitting skills to win free Cubs tickets for their listeners this year.

Hmmm. Maybe I can get into the ballpark almost anytime I want for the price of a one-day CTA pass and a scalper’s soul.

Anyone have an issue with iPads in the dugout?

No. I think allowing players to stream Netflix and thus keep up with their favorite shows would be good for morale. (dying laughing)

And now 2 days later, my hamstrings and abs are fucking killing me. (dying laughing) But seriously, I never realized how much I miss playing baseball until I was in there throwing the ball around and hitting. But it’s amazing how much your skills erode when you don’t use them for 8 years.

(I assume this is the right video clip. Since I can’t see YouTube at work this is supposed to be the clip from 40 yr old Virgin that says “If you don’t use it you lose it”

Motherfucker.
It was a serious question.
I’m not sure what I think about that. Teams have “information” in the dugout already with their 3-ring binders full of player splits. Video takes it to another level though (i.e. like someone in the article said, watching recent video of an incoming RP during the pitching change as you get ready to PH).

I generally don’t have a problem with anything like this. I’d have to think about any ways where there might be an unfair advantage gained (no idea, just musing) and I think some would be worried about whether its actually being used for baseball-related things. Not concerns specific to me, but in general.

I think the issue could be stealing signs. If you have an iPad you could watch the game on tv and relay what pitch is being thrown. Just a guess.

@ Suburban kid:
In “Moneyball” even the A’s had a little room where they could check out video of their swings after each plate appearance but they had to go back into the clubhouse to access the video. An iPad would be much more convenient (save you the walk anyway) but the stealing of signs should be a concern.

You could have iPads without internet. Teams load before the games whatever they want.
GBTSQuote Reply
I imagine an extra job opening up for the umpires’ union where they’d have one or two dugout umps that act as hall monitors and confiscate iPads that don’t stay behind a designated “iPad corner” of the dugout to prevent in-game espionage. Of course, the next imagination was of the Cubs implementing a periscope system with smoke signals and semaphore.

Ugh, I remember not being a fan of this guy that HBT has been using for these previews. I’m not even halfway through and he’s managed to piss all over Ramirez, Sosa, and Fukudome and quote Bob Brenly in doing so.

True, but do we really expect the umpires to ensure that the ones being used in the dugout are without wifi? You know as well as I do that if they allow non-internet iPads that teams will break these rules and use ones with wifi.

Discredited Fantasy Baseball 2 is happening. I’ve reactivated the league, if you played last year and want to play again this year you should be good to go.
Anyone who wasn’t in last year and is interested this year, let me know and you can acquire spots from people who don’t sign up again.

GBTS, it looks like anyone who was in was auto-enrolled in the league. Anyone else who is interested can take my spot, I’m done with fantasy baseball.

It seemed unnecessary to rip her as she wrote this as any pleasant 85-year old woman would write a review of Olive Garden. If he was interested in doing so, my grandpa probably would have written the exact same thing except about Ruby Tuesday. My hometown went apeshit when Ruby Tuesday came to town. Now they also have an Appleby’s and a Starbucks. It’s fucking awesome.
When my aunt comes to Chicago, they make a point of going to Cheesecake Factory and they love it. Hell, I still make a point of going to Chili’s periodically for their Chicken Crispers. I fucking love those things.
But does Marilyn give a shit what people are saying about her or her review on the internet? She’s 85 years old. She grew up during the depression. She probably lost schoolmates in WWII and Korea. I’d wager she has had bigger problems than what some dipshit going by Aisle 424 on the internet thinks about her review of Olive Garden. At least, if I were her, I wouldn’t.
