Jim Callis on Albert Almora

In Minor Leagues by Obstructed View Staff52 Comments

Baseball America's Jim Callis answered a reader's question in one of his recent articles. Asked which of Albert Almora, Jorge Soler, David Dahl and Yasiel Puig had the the best chance for succes, Callis said it was easy.

Which is the best bet for success is easy. Almora has the highest floor among that group, with scouts considering him one of the most advanced and mature high school players to come along in years.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2012 draft is currently sidelined with a broken hamate bone in his left hand, but Almora should speed toward Wrigley Field once healthy. I’ll be stunned if he doesn’t become at least an annual .275/15 homer hitter with Gold Glove ability in center field.

He also took Puig as having the highest ceiling among the group.

So BK save your lectures, enjoy your new acceptable blogger status and leave the rest of us alone. If you want to be the Jay Leno of Cubs blogs and a raging pussy, go right ahead, but the rest of us will blog the way we feel like it and if it means we can’t have any pizza or beer with the MSM then so be it. I guess our familes and friends will have to suffice. . . . Make sure you and Al send us a postcard from the seceret house-blogger retreat that the establisment sends you on.

I actually had to get up and leave class to compose myself.

just re-reading Starfuckers has reminded me of a few things- 1- I used to really really care about the Cubs. 2- Spelling was and always will be overrated. (dying laughing).

    @ josh:
His glove has been fine (he saved a run with a diving stop). His throwing arm has been another story…

Guess which team Norishika Aoki has the highest OPS against? Hint: it’s the Cubs.

.426/.508/.685 in 66 PA (most PA against any team).

Julio Borbon would have been intriguing but Ryan Sweeney would be the first call and you can only have so many of those types in your system. Whitenack is probably cooked, hence the reason he was the 40-man casualty and not Chris Rusin.

I’m confused about the score of the game right now. Surely 6-3 Cubs is a typo that has been promulgated across espn, sportsline, and MLB. Right?

I didn’t like the bunt, either. Not because he’s the hottest hitter, but because he looked terrible bunting and apparently has little experience bunting. In any case, the bunt should have been called off when he got a count in his favor.

Just started a new job. Had a choice of laptop and asked for the small one, for lightness and portability (my personal one is a tank). Too fucking small. Can’t type on this shit and screen way too small. Way to go SK.
