Also known as Shitstravaganza 2013!
Iowa Cubs 0 @ Colorado Springs 5
This was bad. Dave Sappelt went 1-3 with a strikeout. It was the best offensive performance on the team. Interestingly, Logan Watkins played SS. He got on via FC (0-4) and stole a base. Only Luis Flores, Nick Struck, and Edwin Maysonet reached base otherwise; everyone else went 0-fer. As a team, the Iowa Cubs struck out 8 times and did not walk.
Nick Struck had a real bad one. In 5.2 innings, Struck surrendered 5 runs on 8 hits, 3 walks, and a HR. He also punched 6. Yoanner Negrin continued to embarrass Kameron Loe with 1.1 innings of scoreless work. Zach Putnam had a nondescript 9th inning.
Birmingham Barons 16 @ Tennessee Smokies 0 (slaughter rule)
My company baseball team plays it's games at 6:00pm Tuesdays, am I'm our pitcher. Yesterday, we got rocked by a really good team, 10-0 in 5 innings. We couldn't get on base, and they crushed everything I tossed their way. We got to 3rd base once and only held them scoreless in two innings. We suck.
We are a lot better than the Tennessee Smokies were yesterday. The Smokies also got to 3rd base once, but only held the Barons scoreless in the 1st inning. Matt Szczur went 0-2 with a walk and a strikeout. The other two walks were from Ronald Torreyes. Arismendy Alcantara continues to struggle; he went 0-2. Ty Wright and Christian Villanueva were each 1-2, as were Rafael Lopez and Elliot Soto. That was every hit; A.J. Morris, Villanueva, and Johermyn Chavez each commited an error.
Matt "The Juices" Loosen allowed as many baserunners as he recorded outs. 2.1 IP, 4 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO, 3 HR. With an 8.49 ERA this year, perhaps he should start Loosen up in the bullpen from now on. A.J. Morris was inexplicably worse. 1.1 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO. Tony Zych finished the game off with a shit performance too: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR. What a bad day.
The Barons were a 2-run jack from being homer-cycled.
Daytona Cubs 3 @ St. Lucie Mets 13
Zeke DeVoss is haunted. He's now down to .214 on the season with an 0-4, 3 SO performance. His OPS over the past 10 is around .500. Javier Baez had a solo home run in a 1-4 performance. He celebrated with another throwing error. Jorge Soler was 1-4 with a strikeout. Anthony Giansanti went 1-4 with a double and a strikeout. Taiwan Easterling had a 2-RBI double and went 1-3 with 2 SO. As a team, they walked once (Dustin Geiger) and struckout 10 times.
Ben Wells had a rough one. 5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 3 HR. Sheldon McDonald retired the side in the 6th. Starling Peralta got a single out and allowed 5 runs. Can we give him back to Arizona now? David Cales finished off the festivities with 1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO.
Wow, the minor leagues sucked yesterday.

My voice recognition program heard Samardzija as some larger. I think search engine should be program to accept some larger as search for Samardzija.

So speaking of Samardzija, I was thinking he was doing kind of shitty this year but he actually looks okay.

I love that Groggles is doing well as closer, but I wonder how quickly the asshole meatball Cubs fans will turn on him the second he gives up a save. God, I hate Cubs fans.

Just imagine having the raw power and skills of both Valbuena and Ransom on the same field at the same time!

Soriano was 2-for-3 with a K last night, but I wonder if they want to just baby him since he apparently flew into a brick wall the other night.
