Very few teams played, as this is the ASB for AA and AAA.

The Hawks didn't have a lot of offense here, but they didn't need it. Daniel Lockhart, Jacob Rogers, and Lance Rymel each had a pair of singles; Rymel added a walk. The only XBH was a double by light-hitting Carlos Penalver. Yasiel Balaguert, probably the biggest prospect of the positional players here, was 0-2 and was subbed out of this game. He was a $400k bonus baby back in 2011. Here's what Ben Badler had to say about him then:
Balaguert, who turns 19 on Jan. 9, has modest tools, a strong, thick-bodied frame (6 feet, 190 pounds) that he will have to keep in check and shows occasional average power with a quick bat and good extension. Several scouts have said he'll have to continue to make adjustments to get to his power in games because of a long, uppercut swing from the right side and an aggressive, pull-oriented approach that leaves him susceptible to secondary stuff.
Since his transition to the Cubs, he's grown to 6'2", 215 lbs. I haven't had a chance to see him at all.
James Pugliese took the start and was very dominant. He allowed 2 hits, walked none, and fanned 6 in his half-dozen innings of work. Trey Masek picked up the win with a pair of scoreless, hitless innings, though he did walk two (in addition to punching 3 out). Matt Iannazzo picked up his 4th save with a scoreless, 3 K 9th inning.
Trey Masek is continuously profiled as a fast-riser who is probably slotted for the back end of a bullpen. First, let's get this out of the way:
Ladies of OV (do any exist?); if you want to get with Trey, you've got to keep it smooth.
Masek is a bit on the small side (generously listed at 6'1", 185 lbs), and he did have some tendinitis in his arm last year (which caused him to fall to the 5th). He also has a VERY funky delivery. He doesn't have an overpowering fastball, either. What he does have is a pair of secondary offerings (a curveball and a changeup), which make me think I'd rather see this org give him every chance to slot into the middle of the rotation. This is a guy with 2nd-round talent that happened to fall to us at round 5. I think we'd be doing ourselves a disservice if we didn't at least try; it's not like adding 2 mph to a 90mph fastball is going to make him a dominant closer or something anyway.

You know what? I’m siding with the kid here. At least he followed through, and he paid $5000 or whatever for a pretty cool story. There are worse things you could do with your money (admittedly, not MANY worse things).

I believe the only Lady of OV is Mrs. WaLi.

Speaking of ladies, Julie has a fun little poll over at LOHO today asking who the worst recent Cub is/was.

I voted for Hundley, Bradley, Rojas, Miles, Mather, Hill, Karchner, Perez, Grabow, and Buford.

Yeah she hasn’t been around here lately. I would think with her spending more and more time on the couch she’d be on here more, but oh well.

Maybe Trey means smooth women as in those with excellent pick-up lines?

I agree with Myles. But I hope my daughter doesn’t decide to do this someday.

What time do we expect the Garza trade announcement today? ASG over…

Is there any chance the Cubs can land Trevor Bauer for Garza?

What’s his deal? He’s been awful. And based on his FIP and xFIP, he’s actually also been lucky he’s not worse. I’m not even sure he’s shown flashes of what they hoped he would be.

I don’t think it’s likely, but that’s who I’d be asking for from them. They might go all-in for the AL Central this year, and Bauer is not going to help them at all in 2013.

This is the only reason I’m thinking it’s in the realm of possibility. They’ve seen him first hand now for half a season, they might be willing to flip him for a legit chance at the 2013 playoffs. We’ve seen teams do it before.

I was gunna say throw in Soriano and $$$ to help their DH situation, but Ryan Raburn is actually having a nice little year at the plate platooning with Giambi.

Zack Greinke was traded last year near the deadline. The Brewers got two guys who weren’t ranked in the top 100 and Segura was ranked 55th entering 2012. Greinke was a year younger than Garza last year and was a better pitcher. Bauer was ranked 14th entering the season.
Could the Cubs get Bauer for Garza? There’s not a 100% chance they couldn’t. There’s not a 100% chance they couldn’t get Profar, Bundy, Myers, Miller or Cole either.
