Journeymen of Tomorrow: Minor League Leaders

Once a month, I'm going to take a look at the Cubs leaders at each level in various statistics and how they rank among the larger group. The stats are current through the end of April.

It's awfully early in the season and these shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's far too early to the look at the pitchers so I'm not going to do that until next month.

AVG (all offensive stats use a minimum 50 PA)

Notes: Ian Stewart ranks last in batting average at Iowa among players with 50 or more PA

  1. I’ve noticed a few people being a little concerned about Soler’s attitude after his benching. I saw it on twitter when it was first news and I’m thinking, “what, Soler chasing after an entire team with a bat didn’t raise any red flags for ya? Not running out a grounder, that’s where you draw the line?”

  2. Yes, but how are they doing in RBI w RISP and 2 outs? Also, TOOTBLAN leaders. These things matter, dammit.

Actually, I was surprised to see such good numbers at all. Go Cubs. When those guys get called up this year, they’ll save the team from their 100th loss, I’m sure.

  3. @ dmick89:
As I said with Matt Garza, it’s the uniform. Trade Castro to the Giants and watch him turn into a Gold Glover overnight.

I guess I can’t stop myself from hitting the snark button after.

When did I become such a cynic?

  5. Why don’t the Cubs cut Sappelt and bring up Sweeney? I realize Sweeney is AAAA, but so is Sappelt at best. The Cubs then have four left hitting OF and 2 righties, but Sappelt isn’t hitting anyone, so they are giving those at bats away anyway. Borbon has speed…

Pat says on the radio tonight, “Some people even tweet as much as 20 times a day, right Judd?”

That’s about right, isn’t it Aisley?
