The Cubs new closer, Kyuji Fujikawa has been placed on the 15-day DL. He has what they're calling a right forearm strain.
"It can't get worse right now and being in an important role with the team if it's not helping the team and it's hurting them, it's better to make that decision," Fujikawa said through an interpreter.
Fujikawa recently took over the closer's role when teammate Carlos Marmol faltered. Fujikawa said his arm started bothering him a "couple of days ago" and considered not pitching on Friday. He gave up three hits in his one inning of work, raising his ERA to 12.46.
"I definitely felt my command wasn't there," he said.
Fujikawa indicated he's had a similar strain to his arm "once or twice" in the past and it usually resides after about 10 days.
A forearm strain is sometimes related to a torn ligament in the elbow. Rafael Dolis has been called up to replace him.

Only listening/gameday’n. Is Samardzija throwing different to induce groundballs as opposed to strikeout strikes today? Not even sure if that is possible (dying laughing)

I’m close to boycotting this team until Lillibridge is off the roster.

This is not how it works, but if you took out the 3 consecutive awful starts that Wood had from July 17 to July 27, he had a 3.33 ERA last season

Is Bud Selig in a coma? Otherwise, I can’t imagine players getting away with wearing hoodies under their jerseys with the hoods hanging out the back.

Man the Cubs have such bad defense.

Maybe that’s why Hairston hasn’t been playing.

There should be a rule that if your batting average drops below .050 that you are automatically demoted to AAA. This, of course, would come with PA caveats and such and also with a pitcher exception.

Batting average doesn’t tell you much, man.

Adam Dunn is now: .150/.171/.325 with 5 million strikeouts.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
I always love watching Dunn’s slash line (and strikeout total) progress over the course of a season. He’s like Rob Deer times ten.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
@ Jed Jam Band:
I think it should include pitchers. If you can’t hit .050, see ya later.

@ dmick89:
There’s a DH for that.

@ Rice Cube:
My dog could probably hit .050 and she’s nearly 14 years old.
dmick89Quote Reply
@ dmick89:
Maybe not hit .050, but his OBP you’d think would be good, assuming he was good at “staying” when someone throws a hundred mile an hour fastball in his general direction.

Doggy’s strike zone would be miniscule and the speed should help her beat out groundballs for infield singles. I have faith in her.
