Szczur up? Teammates giving him congrats on twitter.
Has anybody ever been promoted to the big leagues from Low A? I’d assume he got a promotion, which he deserves, but not to the big league. Then again, I guess the Cubs have tried winning with the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Cubs and Tennessee Smokies. None have worked so may as well try the Peoria Chiefs.
Ty Colvin’s slash line for Iowa: .272 /.286 /.503 Reminds me of Sori earlier this year.
Colvin has a lot of power and the potential of being a decent left-handed option off the bench in the future, but his on-base skills are so bad that it may even prevent him from that.
Colvin has a lot of power and the potential of being a decent left-handed option off the bench in the future, but his on-base skills are so bad that it may even prevent him from that.
Colvin’s numbers are even more worrying when you compare them to the res of the PCL. The entire league has a .286/.359/.452 line. Colvin isn’t doing well at all, despite his power.
Youkilis and Jhonny Peralta into ASG.
YOUUUUUUUUUK! I love that guy. He never gets the respect in fantasy leagues and I always get him at an extreme value.
YOUUUUUUUUUK! I love that guy. He never gets the respect in fantasy leagues and I always get him at an extreme value.
Youkilis, Greek god of walks.
So Reyes is out and Tulo might be held from ASG so we might have Starlin Castro as the NL starter at SS. If more players drop like flies we could have Aramis in there too. I’m still a bit miffed that they keep snubbing McCutchen.
So Reyes is out and Tulo might be held from ASG so we might have Starlin Castro as the NL starter at SS. If more players drop like flies we could have Aramis in there too. I’m still a bit miffed that they keep snubbing McCutchen.
Any chance he can play SS or 3B?
I like the talk of Cutch “sneaking in.” I imagine him entering the game disguised as another player.
Youkilis, Greek god of walks.
One of my favorite baseball anecdotes is Terry Francona being told that Youk is nicknamed the Greek God of Walks, and responding with “I’ve taken a shower alongside Youk, and he isn’t the Greek God of anything.”
I’m bummed it wasn’t a groundball in the hole that the SS dived for and couldn’t reach.
Does that really happen with him more often than other shortstops? I’ve always wondered that. I see Castro dive all the time when he can’t get the ball. I remember Theriot doing it. I think it’s something all shortstops feel the need to do. Maybe they think they can get everything if they just dive.
I’m bummed it wasn’t a groundball in the hole that the SS dived for and couldn’t reach.
Well they weren’t playing the Cardinals…
You all read that article? “Hendry promises to be aggressive” followed by a long list of players he won’t trade, including “pieces… that are going to be integral parts of the club a year from now.’’
So no Marmol or Marshall, and probably not Soto. Then Gordo says they won’t look to trade Dempster, Z, or Garza. Wood only goes if he wants, same thing with Aramis. So who is he looking to trade? John Grabow? Carlos Pena? Fukudome? Byrd? Soriano? I’m not exactly eager to see the return we get for that crew, given their contracts. Pena is probably the best trade bait amongst the lot.
This all comes back to Cubs fans not allowing the Cubs to rebuild. If Hendry said we’re having a fire sale and are going to look to be competitive in a few years, Cubs fans would probably attack him and burn Wrigley to the ground. As much as some of us would like a fire sale, it’s just not happening. The Cubs know the fans won’t put up with it.
Actually Bruce Miles reports a slew of moves related to Peoria. In addition to Szczur…
RHP Su-Min Jung to Short-Season Boise LHP Brent Ebinger to Double-A Tennessee LHP Graham Hicks placed on DL RHP Robinson Lopez activated from DL 1B Ben Klafczynski added from Boise
So far that Gorzelanny trade has netted a who lot of pffffft in terms of return.
I don’t remember the last time I felt this negative about the Cubs. You probably have to go all the way back to the 90’s. And even then I was too stupid to know just how screwed they were.

SG from RLYW: He’s signed through 2013 with a player option for 2014. I figure he’ll get about 1500 PA through 2013. It’s not realistic to expect him to go 5 for 5 in every game, but I think 1192 for 1500 is realistic. Actually, he only needs to go 1189 for 1500 now. If he falls a few hits short he can pick up the option in 2014 and finish it off.

I really like the Pirates announcers. Last night Walk was talking about how batting average is outdated and useless. Tonight he said there’s no momentum in baseball. Plus. he also made fun of the Cubs for catching foul balls even if it costs them a trip to the World Series. (dying laughing)
He struckout 20 through 9, but he pitched 10.
I think the game went into extras and Johnson was taken out after 9 full. Would have to look that one up…

I love that blog. http://www.rlyw.net/index.php/RLYW/comments/yankees.com_jeter_joins_elite_group_with_3000th_hit

Padres no-hitter still going on through 8. Padres have only 1 hit themselves.

They probably pissed on my car. Fuckers.
Can the Cubs win today?

I wonder what the longest no-hitter in MLB history is? I remember Randy Johnson no hit a team a few years back for 9 innings and it went to extras.

I’m pretty sure someone threw a 10-inning no hitter. RJ struckout 20 in 10 innings.

Saw a couple 10-inning no-hitters in there.

Luke Gregerson should be ashamed of himself.

(dying laughing) @ Phillies offense. Their only run so far is a Cliff Lee home run and that’s the only reason they even got to extras.
MO, have you had Rogue’s Mocha Porter? It’s delicious.
Rogue’s one-offs are all pretty good. I had the Mocha Porter on nitro out here (pays to live right by the brewery!). It’s really nice. It’s Rogue’s mass produced stuff that’s really lacking.

I really like the Pirates announcers. Last night Walk was talking about how batting average is outdated and useless. Tonight he said there’s no momentum in baseball. Plus. he also made fun of the Cubs for catching foul balls even if it costs them a trip to the World Series. (dying laughing)

When I heard this I told my wife that if you were going to a Paul McCartney concert, you don’t want to spend it in a suite, you want to actually be outside to listen to the music. She’s going to see it at Comerica Park so no obstructed views for her (dying laughing)

Of course that’s actually a good thing. I hear Comerica is very nice, hope she has a great time.

Great diving stop by Castro on that infield single. I guess all his dives aren’t Theriotesque.
