Q is struggling, but I don’t get what pulling him accomplishes. Oh well, the season will be over soon, in any case.

Luckily Rondon is only giving up a HR on 2 of every 3 batters he faces this postseason. He should keep this within reach.

Not that it really matters, but pulling Quintana early is just typical of how Joe manages pitchers in the post-season. He panics over recent results.

    North Side Pat:
Our “Kershaw” chant worked out well.

At NLCS 6 last year, my dad lost his voice for almost a week from all the “Kershaw” chants. All those 58 foot curveballs were beautiful.

That was a Kershaw postseason start I recently enjoyed more than this one.

(dying laughing). KB shows up late to the party after all the alcohol is gone and everyone left

That makes sense, since he’s a teetotaler.

    Perkins,

    It didn’t. https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/03/21/kris-bryant-chicago-cubs-born-win

When the Cubs finally reached the land of milk and honey, they turned it into a raging river of champagne and beer. This was the night Bryant promised he would join them in the bacchanalia. “His parents never really drank,” Jess says about his sobriety, “and when I asked him once about it, he said, ‘I have no interest.’”

As for the truth of what really happened that night after Game 7, let Bryant explain:

“We win the World Series and…” he says, pausing for effect, “I still didn’t do it. I didn’t keep up my end of the bargain.

“It was such a big moment, but I just felt like I don’t need to change who I am. I was the same person that got me to this point, so why do I have to be a different person after that? It just didn’t make sense to me.”

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Cubs re-sign Duensing.

If he’s cheap, I wouldn’t mind, but he may be overpriced after an uncharacteristically good season.

Maybe this would be a good time for Kris Bryant to start drinking…

I would have to think something actually bad would have to happen to him for that descent into vice. Not coming up short in the NLCS after winning another division title while being among the best players in baseball again, also while knowing his financial future is secure for the rest of his life.

Frustrating year in many ways, but really not an unsuccessful one on balance. A consistently inconsistent Cubs team that had trouble with the Brewers all year and got swept by the Padres ends up one of two teams standing in the National League. I’m very curious to see what next year brings, as this year’s “just reset a couple of things and see what happens” approach won’t be possible. Thanks to all you guys for a great place to lurk. I miss y’all a lot in the offseason, so I hope that there are some things to write about here and there.
