  1. I may need some more beer before this inning is out. Strop looks good so far, but not a huge fan of his being in there against the Cardinals.

    Perkins,

Whom would you have on the mound?

Maybe a six out save for Rondon. Not really sure, though. The Cardinals have been Strop’s Waterloo all season, so the 8th inning had me worried going into this series.

  4. Cubs win, even when their ace doesn’t have his best stuff. Things just keep rolling their way. I like this new Cubs luck.

  5. One game is no indicator of a player’s true defensive (or offensive) potential, but it was pretty funny earlier in September when I read “some in the organization think Baez is the best defensive shortstop.” I knew it was bullshit when I read it. He’s OK, but hopefully Russell is alright to go tomorrow.

Yeah, winning this game was huge, but winning this game with a kind of shitty Arrieta is even bigger. We all knew that stretch would end sometime. I just feared it would be a 7-run first inning. 4 runs over 5.2 isn’t good, but it’s far from terrible. It was good enough tonight.

  7. dmick89,

That sounded weird to me, too. I always thought he was famous for his swing and his ability to stay at short was in serious question.

  8. Rizzo the Rat,

It was. I assumed that was some Cubs scout speaking through in the article as a way to maximize his value if they trade him. He’s capable there, but I’d much rather see Castro there tomorrow if Russell can’t play.

    Game’s been crazy

That was an adventure. 322 pitches in that game. Over 4 pitches per batter faced. And 8 homeruns, 6 by the Cubs—an MLB postseason record.

  10. yeah, I was quite relaxed with a 4-run lead in the 9th or a 2-run lead with 2 outs in the 9th. Had they gotten the tying run to the plate, then I’d have worried.
