The Cubs also won their fourth in a row.  Starlin Castro hit a homerun.  Matt Garza pitched really well.  But that hardly seems as important as a nursery rhyme reference that has little to nothing to do with the game.

Awesome (dying laughing). Love the wolf on his helmet.

Also, does any manager get ejected for weaker shit than Quade? I don’t think I’ve ever really seen him get ejected on a Pinella style tirade. The most arguing I saw him do was when the game got called due to rain, but then he was only mad because he didn’t have a chance to make the game a wussout.

Do they have any kind of revenue sharing agreement in the B10? That could go a long way towards helping with the economic aspect of being shorted a home game.

I want to say that the home team keeps 80% of that while 20% goes to the visiting team. TV revenue is split evenly. Nebraska doesn’t get a full share yet, but will before long. I think PSU went 5 or 6 years before they got a full share so I expect NE goes that long, too.
Not surprised Iowa missed, but nice to see they got some votes at least.

I really have no idea what to expect from them this season.
They have a relatively easy schedule so 8-4 is what a lot of fans are thinking. I’m leaning toward 7-5 because I think it’s going to be a lot more difficult than some do to replace Stanzi’s production. On the other hand, Vandenberg has a much better arm so Iowa could utilize what speed they do have better than they could with Stanzi. Coker is legit. The offensive line is returning and is damn good. Iowa has always had their best teams when they have an experienced offensive line. Their defense lost some players, but it’s a Norm Parker defense so I’m not too worried about that.

I think the difference for Iowa between 6-6 and even 10-2 is going to be special teams and last year they were just awful. I know Ferentz has stressed it more than he has in the past and usually when he does that we see improvement.

Iowa plays a schedule in which they could win every game. They could also go 6-6. If Vandenberg settles in early and he should be able to do that with Coker in the backfield, I think Iowa has pretty good team.

I wouldn’t rank them right now because of how much they lost, but they have the talent.

I don’t think any team comes close to Wisconsin this year.

I think superstar is unlikely even if he reduces his k-rate. I think he can and will be a very good good player regardless of the k’s. I do think the k’s are a concern as he’s going to have to have a high babip to have a good OBP even with his excellent discipline. I think Jackson will be a valuable player.

Has there ever been a player with Jackson’s skill set and similar K/BB numbers? Corey Patterson? Granderson?

Hard to say with this division. Probably either the Brewers or Cardinals win it, but it would’ve been nice to see Pittsburgh be the dark horse.

So that was the first Rays game I’ve really watched.

    1) They remind me what people who are good at baseball look like

    2) All their good players are from their system and all their cheapie, one-trick pony, market-inefficiency guys are ex-Cubs. Farnsworth is an ace closer who never walks anybody? Juan Cruz is still alive? With a 9 K/9? It’s like all the 2003 Cubs who were raw with a huge upside are now refined, single-use players with no upside on the 2011 Rays.

    3) MB had me convinced that after 100 years in the minors, Chirinos would never be useful in the big leagues. Okay, he’s only played 12 games so far, but now I’m wondering whether MB did his usual thing of saying “A: No team with any brains would leave him in the minors for 10 years unless there’s something wrong with him. B: The Cubs left him in the minors for 10 years. C: Therefore, there must be something wrong with him.”; forgetting that (A+B=>C) => the Cubs have any brains.

Also, this is my kind of PoD. Speaking as somebody stupid enough to actually bother to watch the Cubs from another continent and a day late, I appreciate your efforts to keep timely, relevant content off this blog.

Even though I made fun of the Rays (and their tiny fanbase) earlier in this thread, I actually admire the team greatly. They have great defense despite a low budget–they’re sort of the anti-Yankees. Longoria and Zobrist are among the great unheralded stars in the game.

Inciidentally, this is also funny since the Cubs now consist of players who got good with the Rays until they became expensive and got bought by the Cubs. So watching the 2011 Rays is like watching both the washouts of the 2003 Cubs plus the albatrosses of the 2016 Cubs.

Ok, glad to be wrong. I only saw sliders (and two warning-track outs — I thought sure that second one was gone).
