I’ve never understood face-painting.
Maybe it’s because I’m a Cubs fan and I usually end up having nothing to brag about, but I just don’t know what someone does when they paint their face to go to a sporting event and then their team gets beat handily. I have a hard time wearing a shirt or hat with a Cubs logo after they lose, so the painting of the face just makes no sense to me at all.
It never seemed like today’s game was in much doubt once the Brewers took the lead, so this kid must be pretty depressed right now.
Plus, why did he paint a target on his face? I mean, I know it makes a certain amount of sense given the state of the team, but I wouldn’t expect a face-painter to be that self-aware. Maybe he lost a bet.

I agree with the general sentiment, though I am also skeptical about how much Olin has left in the tank.
My main criticism is that Cutler seems to thrive with big, sure-handed receivers, as he’s just not that accurate of a passer. A wide receiver with these skills would definitely be preferable, as Martz needs his tight ends to pass block, especially with this o-line.
Yet the Bears seem to have no interest in acquiring a primary receiver with any size whatsoever.

This. I’ve never seen a big guy who drops faster upon contact. He was literally one of the biggest guys on the team and a 5’9′ corner could breathe on him and he would crumble. He was a pass catching tight end with terrible RAC skills. Better athlete than football player, not the least bit upset to see him go.

Having said that, it’s hard not to laugh at the whole thing. Trade your best on-base guy for a minor league outfielder with a high K/9, let’s see what happens.
Cubs 2010 #1 draft pick RHP Hayden Simpson followed Garcia to the mound, entering the game at the start of the 6th inning. Throwing nothing but fastballs (as was also the case in his previous outing), Simpson had an easy nine-pitch 6th (striking out the lead-off hitter looking), before allowing a lead-off single and a one-out Miguel Marte RBI double high off the CF “Green Monster” (Batter’s Eye), just two pitches after Marte slugged a near-HR down the LF line (hooked foul at the last second before clearing the fence). Simpson was then removed from the game, after having thrown 26 pitches (17 strikes).
While he throws only fastballs in games, Simpson does throw a breaking ball and a change-up when warming-up. But he apparently is so messed up right now, the Cubs feel he needs to go back to square one and just try and command his fastball (which he was able to do today, and with perhaps a bit more velocity than he has shown previously), before adding anything else to his in-game regimen.
You can tell somebody of concern is in the game when the Fitch Park Sports Psychologist is sitting on the bench, and a Special Assignment Scout is running the radar gun from the tower (hiding the readings from the players).
I agree with you about Olsen. While he hasn’t been the best TE, he had good chemistry with Cutler it seems. He just doesn’t fit in Martz’ system apparently.
Also, how does a team agree on a PTBNL? Is the conversation something like
Team 1: “Here, we will give you a 3rd round pick”
Team 2: “That sounds alright, but I want something more”
T1: “Okay, what do you want? Another pick? A player?”
T2: “I don’t care what, it just has to look like I got more than just a pick. But let’s worry about that later because I really want to make this trade happen so it looks like I am being active”
T1: “Okay, how about a PTBNL. It isn’t going to be our only good player, most likely it will be someone we were going to cut”
T2: Perfect!
