This is just a bizarre column.
Ricketts’ hiring of Epstein directly affects three other franchises, and that doesn’t count the White Sox or anyone else who lost Gonzalez to the Red Sox in the trade last December.
What the hell? Should we include all the teams that bid on Carl Crawford last year, but didn’t sign him? If we’re thorough we could find a way for this transaction to have affected all 30 organizations. Again, what the fuck?
Nobody is counting the White Sox or anyone else who lost Gonzalez becuase they aren’t in any way, shape or form affected by the Cubs hiring Epstein.
Theo Epstein has secretly been running a cabal to get Gonzalez into the Red Sox, so that he can begin a chain reaction that ends with him as emperor of the world. What’s so hard to understand?

You’re forgetting that because the Cubs hired Epstein, all contracts and trades he made as the Red Sox GM are void. This also means that the Cubs get their two WS trophies (dying laughing).

The guy is basically accusing Theo and Hoyer of making dirty trades because they were buds:
“Hoyer, hired as the Padres’ GM after the highly respected Kevin Towers was fired at the end of 2009, appeared to get value in return when he acquired three good prospects for Gonzalez (pitcher Casey Kelly, outfielder Reymond Fuentes and first baseman Anthony Rizzo), but was that package better than others he was offered?”
Did anyone cry foul on this trade? I don’t remember anyone thinking the Padres got taken to the cleaners on this. I find it pretty hard to believe that Theo has the ability or desire to “plant” his buddy Hoyer as GM of the Padres just so he could steal Adrian. And if he did, how does that affect the Cubs anyway?

Sounds like a pretty good deal considering the Red Sox were just buying the last year of his contract and the rights to negotiate an extension with Gonzalez.

I don’t think anyone claimed it was a bad trade. If anything, the Red Sox gave up too much.
