At least the Cubs found out early and can (theoretically) get aggressive with the rest of the market. About the worst case would be getting strung along for another week, missing out, and also losing out on a contingency plan.

Rice Cube,
Iβd rather they just went with something from the archives like the powder blue pinstripes or one of the really sharp unis from the 20s-60s.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Rumor is the Wrigleyville City Connect jerseys are being retired, but these are alternates, so a new CC uni is in the works. I hope they keep the hat from the current ones.
PerkinsQuote Reply
This new alternate jersey looks like utter shit, some minor league stuff.

berseliusQuote Reply
Perkins,
(I thought the wrigleyville ones were pretty mid too)
berseliusQuote Reply
berselius,
I like these marginally better than the Wrigleyville ones and would probably keep them as the new CCs rather than a straight alternate. I really loved the hat and the sleeve Wolf Point logo from the Wrigleyville ones, and they might have been better with contrasting pants. The navy up and down was dumb.
My dream Cubs uni scenario:
-These or something similar as CC because most of that series is bad so who cares
-Home pinstripes unchanged
-Bring back the royal blue alternate jersey as a home option and not just road
-Red bills on the road caps again
-A Sunday home alternate throwback that changes every season
-Drop the sponsor patches
PerkinsQuote Reply
If this squeezes out the Zambrano blues, which IIRC are also technically alternate jerseys, even more shade to these.
I don’t think that’s the case though, but I’m mad anyway (dying laughing)
berseliusQuote Reply
I loved the baby blue spring training hat from last year (and still wear it regularly)
berseliusQuote Reply
berselius,
The Zambrano/Hendricks blues are safe.
The rule from MLB (really Nike) is 4 jerseys plus a City Connect, so this either occupies a vacant slot or may replace the City Connect.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Perkins,
Yes, the Wrigleyville kit is being retired but the alternate deep blue tops will stick around

I generally liked the Wrigleyville uniform but I was in the minority (dying laughing)
I am unsure Wrigleyville would’ve worked with just the top and another color uniform pant
Rice CubeQuote Reply
Rice Cube,
I could see the Wrigleyville having worked better with white pants having navy or powder blue piping matching the colors in the jersey/hat. I think dark/saturated pants in baseball is a dumb look in general, though.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Perkins,
That’s fair, I liked the uniform (heh) color throughout the kit but I get it’s not for everyone. I think I’m ambivalent about the new powder blue (it looks very similar to the hue used by Philly and KC and probably also the Cards) but lots of folks seem to like it
Rice CubeQuote Reply
Rice Cube,
I have a weird soft spot for the Cubsβ powder blue pinstripe unis from the 70s and would not hate seeing a version of those as an alternate, maybe with a button front instead of a pullover jersey.

Given the speed at which he was inducted into the Cubs HoF, I have to hope we see 21 retired this season.
And I gotta say, watching him sprint out to RF to raise the flag would be the best Cubs-related moment weβve seen since 2016.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Perkins,
He basically is a HOFer albeit a fringe one so that number retirement wouldn’t be surprising, I don’t think it is a guarantee by any means though
Rice CubeQuote Reply
Rice Cube,
Off the top of my head Iβd say he was the third best Cub of my lifetime (and definitely the most exciting). The other two are in the HoF and while Sammy’s WAR total is borderline from defense, Iβd definitely vote for him for stuff like three 60 HR seasons, the impact of the 1998 HR chase, and having an MVP award.
