At least the Cubs found out early and can (theoretically) get aggressive with the rest of the market. About the worst case would be getting strung along for another week, missing out, and also losing out on a contingency plan.

    Rice Cube,

He’ll follow McKinstrey to the Tigers where he’ll be amazing for a month, making the Cubs look dumb, and then revert to his standard production but after the idea that the Cubs made a dumb move takes root.

    Or, more likely, Seattle.

Might be the only prediction I’ve ever gotten right

In addition to the three correct IF answers, I don’t remember Jerry Hairston playing any OF in 2005.

Rumor is the Wrigleyville City Connect jerseys are being retired, but these are alternates, so a new CC uni is in the works. I hope they keep the hat from the current ones.

    berselius,

I like these marginally better than the Wrigleyville ones and would probably keep them as the new CCs rather than a straight alternate. I really loved the hat and the sleeve Wolf Point logo from the Wrigleyville ones, and they might have been better with contrasting pants. The navy up and down was dumb.

    My dream Cubs uni scenario:
-These or something similar as CC because most of that series is bad so who cares
    -Home pinstripes unchanged
-Bring back the royal blue alternate jersey as a home option and not just road
-Red bills on the road caps again
-A Sunday home alternate throwback that changes every season
    -Drop the sponsor patches

If this squeezes out the Zambrano blues, which IIRC are also technically alternate jerseys, even more shade to these.

I don’t think that’s the case though, but I’m mad anyway (dying laughing)

    berselius,

    The Zambrano/Hendricks blues are safe.

The rule from MLB (really Nike) is 4 jerseys plus a City Connect, so this either occupies a vacant slot or may replace the City Connect.

Really surprised to learn Randy Hundley didn’t have 1000 hits.

    Rice Cube,

I could see the Wrigleyville having worked better with white pants having navy or powder blue piping matching the colors in the jersey/hat. I think dark/saturated pants in baseball is a dumb look in general, though.

    Perkins,

That’s fair, I liked the uniform (heh) color throughout the kit but I get it’s not for everyone. I think I’m ambivalent about the new powder blue (it looks very similar to the hue used by Philly and KC and probably also the Cards) but lots of folks seem to like it

    Rice Cube,

I have a weird soft spot for the Cubs’ powder blue pinstripe unis from the 70s and would not hate seeing a version of those as an alternate, maybe with a button front instead of a pullover jersey.

Given the speed at which he was inducted into the Cubs HoF, I have to hope we see 21 retired this season.

And I gotta say, watching him sprint out to RF to raise the flag would be the best Cubs-related moment we’ve seen since 2016.

    Rice Cube,

Off the top of my head I’d say he was the third best Cub of my lifetime (and definitely the most exciting). The other two are in the HoF and while Sammy’s WAR total is borderline from defense, I’d definitely vote for him for stuff like three 60 HR seasons, the impact of the 1998 HR chase, and having an MVP award.

I know it’s all the same mostly horrible family but I do think there is a separation between Papa Ricketts super PAC money and the Cubs-specific money, though who knows where the line actually is

I’m still looking forward to the seemingly common situation that the Dodgers are completely dependent on two clean innings from Joe Kelly to get past the NLDS.
