OSS: Cubs can’t buy a hit with RISP
Three up:
1. Matt Sczcur tied the game with a bases-loaded sac fly in the third.
2. Edwin Jackson looked good coming out of the pen, hitting 94-95 with his fastball.
3. Rizzo got on base four times in four PAs, with two HBP and two singles, one of them a bunt against the shift. That’s a rare Berselius-approved bunt.
Three down:
1. Pretty much everyone in the lineup other than Rizzo. Matzek was all over the place and the Cubs could only scrape together one run. Castro struck out once and hit into a double play, though you’d think that he struck out 8 times with how the twittersphere was reacting.
2. What’s the point of having three catchers if you don’t actually use them? I get starting Beef vs a lefty, but I’d rather see Montero pinch hitting over guys like Herrera.
3. Schlitter came in and promptly let the game get away from the Cubs, though no lead is safe in Coors. The Cubs likely called him up over arguably better options because of his heavy sinker playing better at Coors, but it didn’t sink yesterday.
Next game: Today at 8:10 PM CT. What’s with the Rockies and the weird start times? Yesterday’s game was 2:10 PM local time, this one is 6:10 instead of the usual 7 pm game.
Will the Cubs win? Probably not, since their winning percentage in games I attend is something like .079.
