Series Preview: New York Mets (20-11) at Chicago Cubs (15-15)

In Series Previews by berselius

After a long slog of a road trip at least the Cubs will have time to take a breather and…oh wait, another 4 day series. The Cubs have had only two scheduled off days so far, aside from the first week (which doesn’t really count). The Cardinals will be sipping bud light garbage water a ritas and relaxing while the Cubs don’t see another off day until next Thursday. I guess that means that at least they’ll have more later in the year, but this is not so great for this pen.

I’ll skip the Cubs for time, it’s Rizzo like 15 times on the list.

Probable Pitchers

Projected ERA, K/9, BB/9 listed for all

Monday: Jacob DeGrom, RHP (3.43, 8.18, 2.64) vs Jon Lester, LHP (3.12, 8.11, 2.25), 7:05 PM CT

Tuesday: Noah Syndergaard, RHP (3.50, 9.05, 2.83) vs Jake Arrieta, RHP (3.58, 8.63, 3.31), 7:05 PM CT

Wednesday: Matt Harvey, RHP (3.16, 8.34, 2.62) vs Jason Hammel, RHP (3.90, 7.64, 2.45) , 7:05 PM CT

Thursday: Jon Niese, LHP (3.87, 6.81, 2.45) vs Travis Wood, LHP (4.40, 7.42, 3.37), 1:20 PM CT

Given that the Cubs are coming off two tough road series, have a gassed pen, and are facing a wall of strikeout machines on the mound, I think they’ll be lucky to come away with a split. Just a rough stretch of baseball right now.
