@ JonKneeV:
I disagree with this. Even though Barney wasn’t as good this year, that will certainly be taken into account. It shouldn’t, but it will. Voters tend to compare the players against each other and against their own past performance. Barney may have had a good year (in the field), but it wasn’t as memorable as last year and he’ll inevitably be docked for that. Human nature at its best.
Plus his bat is terrible. Even though it’s a fielding metric, I bet there’s a correlation of who wins GG to who had the better season at the plate. There will be outliers (last year; Barney), but more times than not if they are even, the better hitter will win. Again, no science behind this, just observation that could be wrong.

I wanted to write something funny about how Darwin Barney is really bad at hitting, but it just bums me out. I don’t care how good he is defensively; unless he can get on base 30% of the time, he’s sub-replacement level.
MylesQuote Reply
I guess not technically sub-replacement level, but you know what I mean.

Yellon on twitter has an article on why Adrian Cardenas retired from baseball. I was wondering what happened to that guy, but not curious enough to click.

Someone with a BA sub should tell us what the Bryant article says about him.

Here’s the Cardenas article, written by the player himself…

I just saw a Facebook acquaintance endorse a debut LP from a New Zealander indie-folk ‘outfit’, based out of Brooklyn named ‘Streets of Laredo’. I can’t believe this wasn’t out of The Onion (dying laughing).

Look at this draft: http://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/years/2011
Twelve ELITE players. I stopped counting at 11 additional very good players before the end of the second round. Six guys currently starting for their teams (if you include the supplemental draft).

@ Rice Cube:
nice link, thanks.
made me wonder what the strings attached to a signing bonus are…how soon can a player walk away from baseball without having to pay any of it back?

@ JonKneeV:
“Power
Future Grade: 70
Bryant shows a lot of raw power in BP. Easy power. The ball really carries off the bat and big field power as well. I can see him hitting 30 home runs in a full year; maybe not right away but he will hit at least that many in his prime years. I’m seeing that with 30-plus doubles and a lot of run production . . . a true middle-of-the-order type bat.”
that is the most important part IMO. Put furute grades of 60 Bat 70 power 45 run 45 Field 60 arm
Classic 3B RF

well, his bonus was with the Phils, and he was later with the A’s and Cubs, so I guess it’s moot in this case. good question though.

Back and forth text convo with MomBTS, lifelong Cubs fan:
Mom: I was listening to the radio this morning and the Red Sox fans sounded so happy. I got a chill down my spine. I really really hope that is us someday.
GBTS: If it’s any consolation, half that Red Sox team was acquired by Theo.
Mom: That is consoling. Thank you. I will never give up. Ever.
GBTS: But to bring you back down to earth, that Cardinals roster will be dominant for like 7 more years.
Mom: Why do you do this to me
