Curious if Almora performing well this fall is going to shorten up his time in Daytona any.

Some fun comments from the last thread after the new thread announcement…
I liked the one that called Castro’s maturity and preparation into question. I must admit I don’t know his practice/preparation routine though.

I would guess it won’t matter by the time the decision is to be made next year. Javier Baez performed poorly in the AFL last year and was promoted to AA about midseason. I’m guessing the only concern for the Cubs will be how he’s performing next year.
Of the Cubs big four prospects, only Baez played a full season this year. He ended up missing out on the AFL, but the others are mostly there to get additional playing time they missed throughout the year.

Yeah, if he were struggling I don’t think it would make a difference. Mostly I guess I wonder if, because he’s having success against a difficulty level higher than what he’s experienced previously, if the 100 PAs or so he’ll get will count towards the PA totals at each level the front office wants players to get. Then again, Hoyer has also talked at length about players being able to beat their development plan, so the PAs thing is probably fairly unimportant anyway. Sometimes I just need to talk my way through these things, don’t mind me.

I think it could be a factor if the team is on the fence. Then again, if they’re not certain, they’d probably just wait until they were. I think offseason performance in the minors is overblown by the fans.
However, let’s say the team was trying to decide if they wanted to start to Almora at AA or High A, I can definitely see the performance in the AFL having an impact. We know that’s not the case. Almora will start at High A so I doubt his AFL performance means anything to anyone other than Almora and a bunch of Cubs fans.

The only other way I could see it coming into play is if he gets off to a slow start in April, but then rakes in May and June, it might make a difference between an August or July promotion. Ditto a good spring training performance. That was sort of the context I was thinking about it in; how long is Almora going to spend in High-A if he performs like we expect him to.

(dying laughing) what for? Because they lost out on a manager who had never managed? Cubs fans are funny.

Kaplan seemed to be trying to rile everyone up. Ausmus was his preferred candidate.

I admit I fell for it this time, more for selfish reasons though. I wanted Ausmus so I could watch the fanbase freak out about the cubs hiring a completely unproven manager.
