Nothing fancy, just wanted to share this video where the Cubs won a game, a series, and secured a winning West Coast road trip because that’s how baseball works, right?
Dreamcast 76: Magnificent Seven
Congratulations to the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks for giving MLB a postseason ratings nightmare, and for preventing me from calling this episode “The Full Dombrowski” just for berselius. Topics include: We’ll try to do something right after the World Series where I actually do some research to see what the Cubs can feasibly do to make a 2024 …
Championship Series, As If the Two “Leagues” Weren’t Just One MLB Anymore
And then there were four. The division series this year were pretty lopsided and not the way any of us would have thought, but in retrospect, that teams that got bounced, despite having the better seed, probably should have done more with their pitching. In further retrospect, I guess you don’t expect so many injuries or that much ineffectiveness all …
The Postseason Continues
Four sweeps in the wild card round so no baseball until Saturday, but the matchups seem promising on paper. At least the various NL teams we don’t like aren’t moving on, and the rest can lose too.
The 2023 Postseason
This is the bracket: The Cubs, of course, finished a game (more like two with tiebreakers) out of a playoff spot so they don’t get to play anymore, but this is a pretty solid field that should generate lots of fun for this coming month before we ponder free agency and offseason trades.
Two Weeks
I knew that I wrote something like this a while back, but I didn’t actually know it was from June, before the Cubs made enough of a run to actually get into buy mode. Since then, the Cubs have went on quite the run to get into the postseason picture, but are now unfortunately on the outside looking in, albeit …
Series Preview: Cubs (40-54) at Diamondbacks (40-56)
It’s nice to have a competent front office. Sure, the team is really bad, but I don’t ever really worry about the little things, like our GM so offending a draftee that his agent won’t even return the team’s calls on signing deadline day. I never thought that Jim Hendry was a terrible GM, but were he in charge right …
Series Preview: Arizona Diamondbacks (30-23) at Chicago Cubs (22-30)
The DBacks lead the NL West division with a record of 30-23, which would be good for fourth place in the surprisingly competitive NL Central. The Cubs are movin' on up, and now have a comfortable three game lead on the Brewers for fourth place. We're not Number Five! Let's see if they can continue to promote the ephemeral momentum …
Series Preview: Arizona Diamondbacks (94-68) vs Milwaukee Brewers (96-66)
Milwaukee is already up 1-0 in this series but these things take too damn long for me to write to have this up before that happened (laughing). It’s hard to believe that there are two teams from the NL Central in the playoffs this year. Team overviews Team stats, with NL rank in parentheses DBacks Brewers wOBA .321 (4th) .327 …
Series Preview: Chicago Cubs (10-13) at Arizona Diamondbacks (10-13)
The Cubs basically canceled yesterday’s game because they didn’t like the matchup. No other explanation makes sense to me – the rain had passed the Chicago area after an hour or two, and it didn’t look like there were further huge storms that could delay ther teams’ flights out of town. I think it had a lot more to do …
