Welp, we had this thing done on Sunday night and then the Cubs went and blew up our plans, so we recorded again. Mind you it’s a good thing that they did the thing, but still, considering how most of us have actual jobs, this is as early as I could get it to you (dying laughing)
This time:
The Cubs clandestine recruitment of Craig Counsell
What this means for David Ross
What this means for the 2024 Cubs
Some old stuff about the World Series that just happened
Thoughts on the Gold Glove winners
Some goofs and easter eggs for your amusement
We’ll be back after the GM Meetings and the MLB award announcements for another episode before the Thanksgiving break, and hopefully by then we know more about how the Cubs intend to make Counsell’s first year really slap.

Congratulations to the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks for giving MLB a postseason ratings nightmare, and for preventing me from calling this episode “The Full Dombrowski” just for berselius.
Topics include:
Our enjoyment of the postseason so far
Whether the playoff structure and the bye is good or bad
Things to take care of for the Cubs this offseason to get an invite to the party next year
We’ll try to do something right after the World Series where I actually do some research to see what the Cubs can feasibly do to make a 2024 postseason run a reality.

The postseason will continue without the Cubs again, but we got together anyway to talk about what a fun season this was despite the disappointing end. Topics include:
Things we liked and definitely did not like
How to fix some of the slumpy and stupid issues the Cubs dealt with this season
The mastery (or lack thereof) of David Ross
Wish list for the offseason, including Cody Bellinger (maybe)
AC’s undying love for Nick Madrigal
This one’s a longer one because we had a lot of stuff to say. We’ll get together again just before the World Series in case there’s some Cubs-related news that popped up but mostly just to talk about the playoffs probably.

Kind of sucky that we have actual jobs and lives and responsibilities that make it so our recording sessions often coincide with Cubs games, and also sucky that sometimes, the Cubs don’t win those games. But methinks most of what we said during this latest poop of a loss is still applicable as the Cubs remain in contention in the final week of the season, which is an objective fact even if their path is a bit more difficult due to various self-inflicted wounds. Herein:
Stroman’s return and pitcher usage with injuries and fatigue racking up
Using the best possible matchups
Play the rookies, maybe?
Award nominees like we actually had a vote

We promise never to talk about magic numbers again too prematurely because that past stretch kind of went to hell in a hurry, but the Cubs are still miraculously in a good position to earn that postseason berth should they choose to play better in these final two weeks, and the first game back at home was a pretty good indicator that they might at least try. We also talk a bit about the Tampa Bay stadium thing and some other stuff.

RC & AC hang out by themselves this time because everyone else had better things to do or whatever. Topics include:
Awesome work by Wicks and Assad
What’s up with Taillon
Cubs vs Brewers
The very likely opening Wild Card round
Some thoughts on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter
I did a bit more editing this time but got pissed off several times because my mouse crapped out here or there and changed settings all funky on me, so at least this is a short one.

RC, AC, SVB & berselius hang out as the Cubs were crapping the bed against the Tigers (but they did win the finale and the series) to ponder the state of the Cubs. Topics include:
The pitching situation, what with Drew Smyly sucking and Marcus Stroman with a weird injury;
Whether we would prefer a switch-up in the lineup construction;
Personnel decisions as we head closer to September call-ups;
A bit about the weird timing of the White Sox news if you missed it;
…and some stuff about broadcasters and streaming availability
Apologies for the lazy edit, ran out of time and have to do actual work here and there for a real job that pays money.

As the Cubs continue to chip away at their deficits in both the division and wild card races, RC, SVB, and Berselius hang out to consider how to bridge the rotation until Stroman gets back (and hopefully doesn’t suck), Drew Smyly going to the bullpen, trying to get Seiya Suzuki right, and extending Cody Bellinger. Plus there’s some extended talk about some diaper commercial.

Glad the Cubs didn’t blow it in the ninth, but they probably should figure out how to find a better lefty reliever.
Anyway, RC & Berselius hang out to discuss the happenings around the Trade Deadline now that it’s over, including what the Cubs did. We also hope for a quick fix for Marcus Stroman and Seiya Suzuki while also considering how the new rules and the fun injected into the game has benefitted the league in terms of attendance, plus how we watch games and the new Marquee streaming package.

RC, AC, and berselius may have ranted the Cubs into a shocking comeback…or not, it could go either way. Topics include whether to buy, sell, or stand pat, trading the farm for a certain uberstar, and more.
You can probably note the difference between when I take the time to edit the crap out of the podcast and when I just say “fuck it” and post.
