The Children Are The Future-Cubs Minor League Update Sponsored by 8===~~~

In Minor Leagues by Obstructed View Staff20 Comments

Normally I don't do weekend updates because you know, I'm a very important person who spends his free time doing important shit. Like today where I will be flying across the lake on a 21 foot powerboat jamming to Lynard Skynard and pounding Keystone's with my brah's. Because thats how we get down. But I decided to gift all of you with this special edition due to the HR's outbreak in Iowa and the Baez promotion. Enjoy.

Iowa

Pretty much every player we hope will turn out to be something hit a HR last night. Jackson, Rizzo, Vitters and Clevenger all went deep. The good news is they went yard on good pitchers as Shelby Miller and Fernando Salas gave up dongers. Hopefully this is the start of the Brett Jackson resurrection.

Smokies

Trey McNutt had a MEH kind of game.

Daytona

Matt Loosen pitched a gem, striking out 7 in 6 innings. His only run allowed was on a solo HR.

Peoria

The Cubs might as well release Concepcion. That is the biggest waste of money of all time. 57 baserunners in 26 IP. 14 K's. This guy fucking sucks. In good news 2011 1st round pick Javier Baez will debut for Peoria today.

Agreed. They should have released him a day after signing him. I’m still laughing at the media people who thought he might start the year at AAA.

Joe Ricketts is probably pissed about the foolish spending on Concepcion. Somebody get the Super PAC fired up

it will be interesting to see what Baez can do. Seems to have a huge bat but a horrible glove and zero patience at the plate. He walked once in all of EXST and never walked last season.

    @ dylanj:
Could be like Corey Patterson in Low A. Patterson’s bat was just so damn good that he didn’t need any patience to dominate Low A pitchers, but as he moved up the ladder the holes were exploited. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Baez dominate low minors pitching and struggle as he gets to the high minors. If he’s not going to walk he’s not going to keep hitting. Unless he’s like Castro and has a super high BABIP.

Castro’s walk rate is fucking ridiculous at this point. They need to tell that kid to take a fucking pitch.

Its never a good sign to see somebody NEVER walk at this age. But its EXST and the only reason we have those stats is because AZ Phil keeps them himself so who knows.

I really think he’s trying to hard to be the guy who always comes through. If anyone could use a few days off to center himself and get out of the limelight, I think it’s him.

    @ dylanj:
I really thought we’d see more emphasis on batters taking walks with the front office and whoever their new manager would be, but it hasn’t been true.

Patterson was awesome on the Lugnutz. Some of the most entertaining baseball I ever saw was from the boxes in Lansing. No game was ever over.

I agree. I don’t care too much about EXST stats, but Baez had no patience in limited time last year and was known as a guy entering the draft with little to no discipline.
