The Greg Of Rohan celebrated his arrival to a more age appropriate level by hitting 2 HR's in 4 AB's. Rohan is 26 so he's probably the new Brad Fucking Snyder! but still he has 19 HR's this year across three levels. Brett Jackson did Brett Jackson things hitting 3-5 with a triple and a strikeout. Yesterday rumor was that the Cubs brass is going to meet with Dale and that Brett & Vitters might be on their way up. Personally I'm not a fan of it I think both need a full season in AAA. Let them finish out August then bring them up. Actually, what the hell do I know? Just call em up. Vitters btw was 1-3 wtih a BB and his 16th HR of the season.
Is Trey McNutt starting or relieving? Does anybody know anymore? Last night he pitched 3 innings giving up 1 ER and striking out 2. Maybe we are just prepping him to be the swing arm and a younger version of Rodrigo Lopez.
Dallas Beeler & Brian Schlitter combined for a 7 inning shutout and Justin Bour hit a solo HR which was the only run scored.
Lendy Castillo is heading back after his bought with David Patton disease. Last night he started and went 4 allowing 3 hits and striking out 4 batters. Torreyes was 2-3 with a walk and has been outstanding over his last 200 AB's.
Dustin Geiger hit 2 HR's yesterday and drove 8 men in. Geiger has 13 HR's on the year but is sporting a .307 OBP. Baez was 2-5 with a 2B.
Xavier Batista has been pretty worthless this season but last night he picked up 2 doubles and his first HR. Both Vogelbach and Candelario hit 2-5 and Vogelbach is now hitting .355. It's encouraging to see him bat as well as he has this year. You would think he will get the starting job in Peoria next season.
Albert Almora finally had a nice game collecting 3 hits in 4 AB's and stealing his 2nd base of the season. Jorge Soler is showing off some good speed so far and swiped 3 bags including home. He had 2 hits in 4 AB's. Pierce Johnson made his professional debut last night giving up a pair of hits in his 1 IP but keeping the other team off the scoreboard.
Jorge Soler drew two walks in 3 AB's and scored both times he got on. Soler now has 4 BB's to 8 K's in 38 AB's this season. Some guy from the DSL named Loiger Padron struck out 6 guys in 3 IP to earn the W.

I’m not going to tell you what to do, but just pointing out that KC may still hold the tiebreaker over the Cubs.

I’m off to move. No telling when you’ll hear from me again. On the other side of the great Comcast hookup void, I suppose. In another time. Another place. A place like Saturday, where the mythical rivers run full and the data streams forever from wall to computer and back again like ancient waters in a timeless canal.

Speaking of moving, I’m moving into a place less than a block from Wrigley in a week. Getting ready to view the Way of [L]ife ™ up close and personal. (dying laughing)

Muskat’s article today makes it sound like Dempster made it clear to the FO that the Dodgers were his #1 destination. She also hints at a couple things that make it sound like Atlanta might not have been on his list at all, but Epstein and Hoyer were urging him to consider Atlanta because they were very interested and offering Delgado.

I hope you realize that you’re living next to a MLB ballpark, unlike some residents.

I assume you’re talking about this part. I got the same impression, but I’ve figured this all along so it didn’t stand out to me.

Yes, that’s the part I was talking about. I wasn’t sure what to think when the Atlanta deal fell through, but I didn’t think Dempster deserved any of the blame because it was fully within his rights to veto the trade if he wanted to. Atlanta not even being on his list actually makes it all make sense. Hindsight…blah blah blah…

On a seperate note, I sat in the right field bleachers at the I-Cubs game last night, and Jackson has a cannon. He fired a laser strike to the catcher on a single, the runner held at 3rd but would’ve been out by a mile.

There was some guy playing for Everett Aqua Sox (SEA short-season A) the other night, and he spent pregame warmups throwing one-hop strikes from the RF foul pole (325 ft. to home) to 3B. It was pretty impressive. There’s a real beauty to a guy with a great throwing arm.

Cliff Lee is on waivers. I will laugh my ass off when Kenny Williams claims him and gets stuck with that contract, which he can add to Peavy’s and Rios’.

Dempster + Soto vs. the Angels tonight and it’s not the free game of the day. I am disappoint.
Rice CubeQuote Reply
@ Mercurial Outfielder:
Yeah, and I was literally right behind Jackson when he made the throw, and from my perspective it looked like it was going to hit the cut-off guy (Amezaga), but he ducked and it was a strike, no hop.

Dempster + regression + AL = probably won’t have to worry about Cub fans bitching about this trade

I’m pretty sure he won’t be that good, yeah, but I’d like to be wrong in this case.

Stupid Barry Zito. Y U no throw strikes?

That might be the worst contract, ever. Although the Howard extension is in the running.

NL West is going to be a tight race it seems. Giants are not interested in padding their lead. Stupid Zito.

But the mere fact it happened is hilarious as hell.

There is some talk on other blogs about the Cubs possibly claiming Lee off of Waivers so that they can then eat some of his salary and trade him for prospects. My initial reaction is that this is a bad idea, and an inefficient use of resources, but does the math justify this type of move at all?

Hoyer was on the radio today and he said they had money to spend, but that they were going to be careful about how they spent it. I don’t think a maneuver like this is in the cards.
