Iowa

Paul Ryan's Take- Tony Campana had the rate 6-6 game with 4 HR's 4 SB's and a pair of triples. It was truly a testament to his dogged determination and America's greatness. We are all better for having witnessed it.

Reality- Campana was 0-4 with a pair of strikeouts.

Smokies

Paul Ryan's Take- Another night without baseball. Another dream closed due to Obama and his failed failure's.

Reality- Scheduled off day

Daytona Game 1

Paul Ryan's Take – PJ Francescon struck a blow for freedom working 6 IP and only allowing 1 ER. He struck out 3.

Reality- PJ Francescon is the most dangerous man in the world. His live to kill ratio per meeting 9 strangers is a staggering 0/9.

Game 2

Paul Ryan's Take- Nobody really did anything interesting this game.

Reality- Well played Ryan.

Peoria

I'm out of Ryan quips so we'll just switch over to normal shit.

Soler was 2-4 and Yao Ling Wang got lit up. Wang gave up 7 ER in 4 IP which is too bad because before this start he was really having himself a year. I think he's done for the season but Wang will continue to be a name to watch heading into 2013.

Boise

Apparently Dan Vogelbach hit a HR onto the roof of the visiting team's bus last night. It was the 10th blast of his Boise career. He also drew a pair of walks and is taking bases at around a 14 % clip.

“Apparently Dan Vogelbach hit a HR onto the roof of the visiting team’s bus last night.”

    Some things are just inevitable.

EDIT: Shit, why didn’t I submit that as a slogan?

he’s excited that under the leadership of a true patriot like Joe Ricketts the 2012 Cubs have had one of their most successful season’s ever. They not only slashed payroll but were also able to keep ticket prices extraordinarily high while at the same time offering their fans nothing in terms of facility improvements. Isn’t the free market wonderful?@ EnricoPallazzo:

I’m planning to steal your insects when you’re not home.

By the way, yours is the only address we need. Can you send that to me when you get a chance?

Uh… I sent it to AC in an email (at his request).

Wait, does that guy still work here??

I said it to him already, but if you can please mark the letter “LETTER BOMB” if it is indeed a letterbomb, I would appreciate it. The hubris as I open a letter marked as such will really enhance the overall irony as it blows up in my face, and I love good dramatic irony.

also , not sure if this was already posted but the streak is still alive.

I’m as impressed by his streak as anyone, but the idea that he would have time in the middle of a developing play to think about said streak is ridiculous. Len mentioned that last night and I shook my head. The Yahoo article you linked said the same thing. At that moment, it’s utterly absurd to think Darwin Barney was thinking about anything other than getting an out. At that moment he had no idea he even had a streak going.

The people running the contest (the dvd’s) will be sending them so I highly doubt they’ll write letter bomb on there for you. (dying laughing) I could ask.

Is it just me, or have Len and Bob been as shitty as the team this year? Their broadcasts are not fun, informative, or entertaining in any way. Every game I’ve heard them call is either bland or just plain bad.

Pat Hughes doesn’t have that problem, and he doesn’t have a picture to distract people. Len & Bob just have nothing interesting to say. It’s just run-of-the-mill baseball stuff and clichés from Len mixed with woebegone nostaliga and casual racism from Bob.

BUt that’s really ancillary to the actual broadcast which is, at best, boring. At worst, it’s mute-button territory.

Um, are you sure that isn’t your own bias coming into play? I listened to Pat and Keith rave for 5 minutes about the intangibles of… Jim Gantner last night. It was nauseating. Every cliche in the book came out; move the runner over, dirty uniform, great bunter, cared about winning above all else. Keith let us all know he has a ‘special’ term for those kinds of guys. Are you ready for it? “Grinders.

I listen to about 15 cub games for every 1 I watch, so I don’t profess to know all the ins and outs of Len & Bob’s broadcast. What I can say though is that I’ve never heard Len or Bob pimping their own audio CDs night in and night out and you would be better off waiting for the end of the world before the radio broadcast gave you a ‘Stats Sunday’ equivalent.

I really liked Moreland in his short stints, but he’s been terrible as a a full-timer. You’re spot-on about him. But Hughes is great at calling a game. And I’d rather have Hughes pimping his own CD than BRenly pimping his own son.

How is that different than in the past?

No, I’ve never really liked them. Pat Hughes is better because he has to do play-by-play. You can’t start talking about bratwursts without calling plays. Len and Bob half the time don’t even seem like they’re paying attention.

I’m not a big fan of TV broadcasts anyway. I hate seeing the same 3 previews on WGN. I get it, How I Met Your Mother is a stupid show, WGN. You made your point!

“How I Met Your Mother” is “Friends,” set in a bar instead of a coffee shop. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

I liked “Friends” too until Monica and Chandler got married. Then it was pretty weak. Adding Paul Rudd and Ana Faris down the home stretch helped close the last few episodes out on a decent note, but generally after Monica and Chandler’s wedding it got kind of bad.

So I guess that explains why I like HIMYM. I wouldn’t say it ever has made me laugh as hard as Friends did at its best (The One Where No One’s Ready, The One With The Embryos, The One With The Free Porn…), but it’s been pretty funny. Enough for me to stop on it now when I see that it is on.
