Iowa

Everybody had a pretty shitty game. Brett Jackson has now struck out in 20 straight games.

Smokies

Logan Watkins was 2-4 with a sb, his 17th of the year.

Daytona

Ronald Torreyes was 2-5 and is now batting .249. It looks like he is continuing to get back on track after a rough start. Rob Whitenack went 4.2 IP giving up 2 ER, 3 walks and striking out 3.

Peoria

Its was hopefully a learning experience for Javier Baez yesterday as he went 3-4 but took himself off the bases two of those times with a caught stealing and getting picked off. He also committed his 11th error of the year. Oliver Zapata was 2-4 and Larry Suarez struck out 2 in 2 shutout innings.

Boise

Jeimer Candelario went 1-3 with a BB. Other than that everyone was pretty much meh. It was a slow day for the farm.

Posted in last thread without knowing about new thread:

I don’t think we deal Dempster because of the new CBA rules. If a player is traded in season and is a free agent following this season, the team that traded for him does not get pick compensation.

This means the Cubs will be looking for pick compensation plus the value of Dempter. But the team he is traded to will only want to give compensation for Dempster’s added value. This discourages trades for players who will be free agents.

Garza is much more likely because he has the extra year of control and comes with the possibility of draft pick compensation if he turns down arbitration and signs elsewhere.

mb, this is also why people are saying Garza is more valuable than Hamels or Grienke since they are FA after this season.

Wells isn’t on the 40-man roster anymore. Possibly they could put him back on in Garza or Dempster’s spot, but if each guy returns a prospect that is worthy of the 40-man, then forget it. (Probably that is unlikely, but anyway…). My guess is we get Casey Coleman and Chris Volstad back, and we reclaim our dominance in the race to the top.

dj, from twitter they said Baez was out once stretching out a double. He was safe but overslid the bag and was called out. Not that it really makes a difference, though. A TOOTBLAN is a TOOTBLAN.

    @ GW:
how do you know? is this a rumor or is this info actually made public?

also, i assume that a player can alter a no-trade list whenever he wants, right? i.e. it’s not something that needs to be explicitly written into his contract or something?

    @ dylanj:
I think it’s because of the compensation pick, dj. The team trading for him can’t get it and the Cubs can’t get one so about $5 million in value is gone. That was factored into trades before, but now a team (Cubs) will still want that additional money in return because they could keep him for 2 months and get it. I don’t think the Cubs could get much more than $7-8 million in value in a trade and that’s if they pay all his remaining salary.

    @ EnricoPallazzo:
But Bud is just coming around to something that has been suggested by sports writers for major internet and magazine outlets for years. David Brown should spend about 10 minutes looking at all the other folks that suggested it before Bud to realize that there are a lot of people that think it’s a decent idea. It’s a gimmick, but in terms of gimmicks and baseball, it’s pretty minor. The ASG winner getting home field advantage is worse. Of course, interleague play is a gimmick too, right?

I liked both of the Nolan Batman movies, but I’m kind of meh about getting more of them. I like them so much I’d cut them short (dying laughing)

I like that this is the last one of his. I think these things tend to run out of steam if they go on too long.

Hollywood will reboot it again in a few years and we can see the next take on the Joker, etc. etc. That’s half the fun, anyway.

I don’t know. I hadn’t heard that, but I don’t generally follow the movies until they’re in the process of getting made at the earliest.
