The Return of Bote

In News And Rumors by Rice Cube24 Comments

Rejoice, ye peasants, the lords on high have heeded your cries. In short:

  • David Bote selected
  • Nick Madrigal optioned to Iowa
  • Adbert Alzolay moved to 60-day injured list

It appears David Bote shall return to the Cubs, replacing Nick Madrigal. Bote has been playing all over the place on the infield, including shortstop, and has more power potential than our short king. Meanwhile, Madrigal will get what I presume would be more regular playing time in a place where he can’t hurt the Cubs with weak grounders and poor baserunning. I get that some of that wasn’t necessarily his fault, but this seems a logical move since Bote has hit pretty well in Iowa while biding his time.

I believe this is the final season of Bote’s extension with the Cubs, so they’ll see what he can do. Bummer about Adbert Alzolay, who struggled early and then got hurt, which may explain the struggles but is still disappointing as he can’t work through it as extensively right now.

Good luck to everyone, but in the short term, especially David Bote, whom I presume will be a good bench option as the starting lineup is pretty much spoken for.

Always going to love Bote for that walk off grand slam game. He’s as cromulent as any of the other bench infield types and has always seemed like a good vibes guy.

Announcers: Cubs hitters have been unlucky.
Next pitch: Reds turn a double play with the pulverized remnants of what used to be a baseball before Morel hit it.

Pet peeves include letting pitcher off the hook with a first pitch GIDP

Gameday doesn’t tell the story. It was a badly placed, center-cut changeup Morel crushed. It would have been stupid not to hit it.

    andcounting,

Not only that, The 3B didn’t field it cleanly, but it stayed in front of him and was still an easy double play because it was hit so hard.

There have been games where the Cubs haven’t hit well at all, but there’s no remedy for getting unfortunate results from good process, which has happened like crazy this past month or so .

The ump is ass, but the Reds catcher Stephenson does an amazing job framing. He is able to catch pitches three inches outside while keeping his mitt almost entirely in the zone as he receives it.

    Rice Cube,

Exit velocity can be deceiving on grounders since they slow down considerably when they hit the ground. The Morel “grounder” had a launch angle of 7 and may have even hit the fielder’s glove before it hit the ground.
