BP used to have KG, Parks, Rubio ect. Now we are reading about how front offices need to be like Darpa. *makes wanking motion until I die

This made me laugh, if only because of how much I and others here disliked Parks and especially KG back when they were writing for BP. I never thought that we'd be longing for those halcyon days of their four hour podcasts/smugfests, self-masturbatory hashtag memes, and nice little players. But I digress. This was in response to the clickbait-y piece that Trueblood wrote for BP that I'm not going to bother to link to or comment upon* beyond one of the old ACB go-tos: "People should remember that while they have the right to their opinion, they are not entitled to be taken seriously".
People write stupid contrarian shit all the time. I once wrote a devils advocate defense of the Matt Garza trade, and got mad on line about people bashing the Soriano contract all the time before he suddenly became a model player in the papers during the last year of his deal. And I/we were all over the Milton Bradley signing in 2009. This piece isn't even the dumbest thing TB has stuck his flag in over the past year or so, whether it's his opinions on managerial tactics or the Cubs chances against the Mets in the NLCS.
Hanging any of this on BP is dumb, and is a disservice to the many great people who write there including the supreme overlord of this and every other Cubs blog. Baseball content in general is 1000x better than it was back in the "average speed" days. FFS, just look at how irrelevant Yellon is these days. BP used to be the wild west, doing stuff that no other site was doing, and now they're one great site among many. I read it way more than I used to specifically because of BP Wrigleyville, though I still only read maybe 15% of the articles they published over the course of a week. Their podcasts are actually listen-able, unlike the KG days, though I usually only pick it up if something Cubs-specific catches my eye. There's a lot of stuff I don't care about or am generally skeptical of at BP (e.g. utility of framing stats), and I'm not canceling my subscription or anything.
The main reason I started reading this site (well, ACB), was the dearth of content around the interwebs that actually interested me. Now, even aside from the 60 hour work week and incompetent telecoms out here in the boonies, I have a hard time writing about anything Cubs-related because for the most part it's already been written, either at BPW, or BN, or HBT, prospect stuff at half a thousand websites, or half a dozen other websites I'm not meaning to slight by forgetting here. I just like hanging out in the comments and telling people not to tell me what to do, and braindumping from time to time.
Hurry up and get here, actual baseball season.
*Okay, I lied. Just one comment. Trueblood mentions DARPA as a model way of fostering innovation/disruption/whatever the fuck. As someone who works in big science I know people who have applied for and even received DARPA funding. What that article didn't tell him is that a vast majority of DARPA projects are failures. Everything they fund is the very epitome of high risk high reward, and the expectation of most grantees is that their project will fail spectacularly and/or will be really fucking hard. Running a baseball organization is not rocket science, cold fusion, long range superconductors, or other throw-it-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks stuff they fund.

Can Fowler change his mind about the QO? How does it work if he signs with the Cubs?

That sucks about the dog, dm.

Good article, berselius. I agree with regards to BP and to the fact that shit is discussed at length other places and on social networks. I also like the comments so maybe we should aim to post more regularly, but do so by linking to an article or two with a quote? I could probably handle that each day.
Thanks, SK. The qualifying offer would be irrelevant if they signed Fowler. If he signs with the original team, no draft picks are available in the compensation pool to give out.
I’d love the Cubs to sign Fowler. If they do that, I think they’re a legitimate 100 win team entering the season.

Oh, no, he already declined the QO and the deadline to accept has passed.

I do miss the early days of BP, but it’s entirely possible the only reason for that is that many of these ideas were new and exciting as I was just being introduced to sabermetrics

I just see the name Trueblood, and I wonder how vampire tv shows have suddenly gotten mixed up with baseball. Doesn’t matter to me, I’m just on the Cubs blogs for all the ladies. *makes wanking motion because that’s what attracts ladies, right?

The process could speed up now the Cubs are good. The latest Sun-Times newspaper sports section article written by an employed writer says how two of their players are on the All-Good Looking team. As fans, I’m guessing our own attractiveness will rise accordingly. The female readership here should at least double in 2016.
