Brett Jackson went 2-5 with a stolen base and somehow DID NOT STRIKE OUT!!! Vitters was 2-4 and Chris Volstad was super shitty on the mound.
Logan Watkins continues to be one of the very few things worth talking about in AA. Yesterday he hit 2-5 with a triple. His average is up to .282.
Matt Szczur hit 3-4 and Ronald Torreyes continues to rebound batting 2-4 and adding his 9th SB of the year. Matt Loosen continues a mini breakout season of sorts pitching 7.1 innings while allowing 1 ER and striking out 6. Loosen raced up the orginizaiton last year starting in Peoria and ending up in AA. Unfortunately for him his AA stint of 11 innings got him sent back to Daytona this season where he has a 3.2 BB/9 to go with a 8.6 K/9. He's an interesting arm in a bleak system but at 23 he really needs to be doing this stuff in AA for anyone to get really excited.
Peoria
No Game
Trey Martin has really come alive as of late. The 2011 HS draft pick is sporting a gaudy 1.184 OPS in his last 10 games. Last night he went 3-3 with a HR, two walks and his 4th stolen base. AZ Phil raved about this guy's glove and range in CF all spring so if he can get a little offense going as well we might have something here. On the mound James Pugliese threw 5 shutout innings giving up 1 hit and striking out 5. Pugliese now has 26 strikeouts in 32.2 IP.
Not a lot left to say about Dan Vogelbach's bat. Last night he hit his 7th HR and added a triple so he could flash his wheels. His OPS now sits at 1.202 and he is 2nd in the league in HR's next to Rangers prospect Joey Gallo. 2012 draft pick Chad Martin earned the save by striking out the side.

It would’ve been an inside-the-park homer if he didn’t weigh two tons.

Well, I guess Boston takes on more salary overall and Miami gets rid of an unhappy Hanley at 3B, plus he’s not productive this year. Miami gives up on this year, while maintaining a core for next year, potentially with the upside of Crawford if he comes back to something useful, and maybe the prospect will be good. Perhaps it’ll be Chris Carpenter.
Though now that I think of hit, losing Bell and Hanley’s poor 2012 numbers doesn’t really hurt Miami’s chances for this year at all. Bell might be blocking a equally good bullpen arm (not hard there) in Miami’s org.

It was a home run, but he had to stop at 3rd because he was out of breath.

Is hanley really unhappy? i really thought after watching the franchise that him and jose reyes were gay lovers

I thought Vogelbach was having a crazy good start but holy hell is Joey Gallo punishing the baseball. Rangers seem to do pretty well with the scouting.

Crawford and a prospect? More like a truckload of cash, Crawford and the top 25 prospects in the Red Sox system. If Boston can do the rumored deal then the Cubs should be able to get Bryce Harper for Soriano.

BTW Bubbs went to the nats game last night and Bryce harper made one of the more amazing throws from center bubbs has ever seen.

so did the cups get a compensation pick today?

That explains the trade better than I can, I suppose. (dying laughing)
I don’t have cable/dish so I can’t comment on the franchise, but Hanley’s drop in performance could be because he isn’t handling the transition to 3B well. My guess is that even if he’s made his peace with Reyes and in general at the situation, he’s got to be thinking something along the lines, “Those idiots in the FO, if they’d left me at SS, I’d still be dominating” and keeping a happy face.
But what do I know, I don’t have an in, in Miami. The only difference between my speculation and, say, Sullivan’s, is that only 10 people are going to read mine. (dying laughing)

Franchise is great show…
also somehow of the 14 teams in the competitive balnce lottery (12 would be picked) Cubs failed to get a pick

Here are the results of the Competitive Balance Draft
Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cincy all get Round A picks (32-37). So Pittsburgh will have three picks in the top 33 next year.

Cubs aren’t one of the low-revenue or small market teams so they wouldn’t be included. However, they could ask a team that tries to get Demp or Garza to trade them that pick…

Guess we were on the same wavelength.
The picks only go to small market and low revenue teams. Not teams that suck. If the Cubs were in Indianapolis, they’d qualify.

Would you trade Dempster to the Pirates for their CB draft pick–number 33 and some other A-ball prospect?

What if Detroit included their CB pick (#74) in a package deal for Garza? Would that be a good enticement?

I think the Cubs are looking for something like that. They seem very young player/draft pick oriented. I’m sure they’re looking at that. I don’t see many MLB ready players coming back for any of the trades. I think we’re gong to see an even worse team put out next year, honestly, lots of spare parts and platoons.

Yeah, me too.
Actually, this CB lottery makes me think it is even more likely that Dempster gets traded. Maybe it’s a 3-way with the Dodgers, or maybe just to Detroit. I don’t really know, but since losing him after offering arbitration would only net a compensation pick, and not the other team’s 1st round pick (if the earlier discussion is correct), then it seems a B prospect and a CB draft pick might be a better haul. I assume the FA compensation picks come after the CB picks, but I don’t know.

absolutely. if the draft pick(s) flops, we’ve lost nothing except for a pitcher who turns a 62-win team into a 64-win team. flipside is that we draft the next barry bonds.
unless the team will contend in 2013-2014, which they won’t, the only possible reason to hang on to dempster/garza is to increase concession sales (because a 40-win season will see even shittier ticket sales than the current one).
as dudley dawson said, “i say we blow these fuckers up.”
